One of our project students, Megan Johnstone, was awarded a certificate and £250 for her outstanding work as a mechanical engineering student by Robert McDonald from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).
‘Megan’s dissertation project, for which she received a first class mark, involved the use of pulsed lasers to modify the inside of pieces of solar quality glass for the purpose of photon management (controlling light to improve solar cells). Her study was detailed, and high quality and she produced light scattering improvements over 20x greater than the unprocessed glass, a fine achievement. She worked exceptionally hard throughout, became highly knowledgeable about a completely new area of engineering to her, and produced work that is in the early stages of being developed’.
This award is not only for her excellent dissertation work with us as a project student, but also her efforts throughout her time at the University of Chester, and is well deserved. The Laser Lab team offer our congratulations and wish her well in the future.
